"Square
Circle Undulation"
1996, Stainless Steel
66" Height x 45 Width 17"
Angled and curved elementary
geometric shapes combine to make up the sculpture
Square Circle Undulation. Fitting five individual
elements together so they eclipse each other squarely
requires balancing techniques that Tom Brewitz has
mastered. He makes several new designs each year
without exact duplication and all the while he will
still use similar shapes.
The kinetic work is part of the
artists personal collection. Upon comparison we can
see the similarities and differences of his past work
with his latest work.
Many of the elements are used
and reuse in other sculpture however, some shapes are
unique unto themselves. For example, the offset
circle in the center element stands without exact
duplication in other Brewitz ceations. As the
elements undulate, the sculpture fills the visual
senses with a relaxing quality while the hard edged
shapes in motion provide breathtaking stimulation.
